Advanced English Grammar Question?

In my ESL cl that I teach, a girl brought me a book that included the following sentence, "He sees the girl arrive." She then asked me why 'arrive' is correct instead of 'arrives.' I really couldn't think of the grammatical rule for why it's correct. Can someone help me?
