What colleges are good for me?
Believe me, I know how badly being in a hypercompetitive environment can mess up your perspective on what's realistic in terms of college chances. But you're not competing against your clmates, especially if you're not looking to study the same things that they are. And compared to the applicant pool as a whole, there is nothing realistic you can do to make yourself more competitive; it's just going to come down to whether something in your essays or one of your activities catches the admissions committee's attention, and there's no way to control for that. So stop stressing and pick your schools based on where you want to go, not where you think you can get in...'cause really, the only schools that are going to be reaches for you are the ones that are reaches for everyone. (And I'd agree with ownpool that Amherst is probably more of a match than a reach for you.)
