The great gatsby question?

What does the light and dark images symbolize? Like when Daisy blows out the candle and myrtle closes the blinds to make it dark but gatsby is always surrounded by light? What do the light and dark mean?! I understand that the green light can be money, jealousy, new life etc. but i'm really confused about the actual just light and dark. please help! thanks!
